The world has been upside down for about four months now, and I’ve yet to offer you a stiff drink. Well, here’s hoping that the 12 simple, boozy cocktail recipes below will help make up for lost time.

You can consider them anytime drinks (in terms of the time of year and, I guess, time of day… no judgment from me), but many of them skew summery, which is why I wanted to share them. Mixing a good drink requires a bit of care, but anyone can do it. Most cocktails contain little more than fresh citrus and a few other accompaniments like bitters or simple syrup (boil equal parts water and sugar, just until the sugar melts; store in the fridge, forever).

And booze, of course: enough so that you can actually taste it (unless that’s not your thing). The drinks here call for about a quarter cup of alcohol, which is a fairly stiff pour — roughly a third more than the average jigger. That seems entirely appropriate given the additional stress that many of us are under, but, as always, feel free to use the recipes as guidelines and customize as you like.

Please don’t worry about what cocktails you pair with what snacks; if it makes you happy, it’s 100 percent right, and now certainly isn’t the time for being finicky.
