It was a rare Mother’s Day for our family, because usually this time of year I wouldn’t be able to celebrate it with my parents. But because I was home, my little sister and I decided to do something special for my mom.

No, not flowers. But pancake cereal.

Pancake cereal has been trending on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram; while I’m usually not one to partake in strange internet food trends, I couldn’t help but find it hilarious and tempting to try. I was spending all day at home anyway, so why not?

It took us a combined nearly three hours to make all of the mini pancakes, and we even had two sizes: mini and extra-mini.

It was an odd and absurd undertaking, but incredibly fun. The entire family got together in the morning, and we all dug into the ridiculous breakfast meal. Enjoyed with almond milk, fresh strawberries, and some normal-sized pancakes, our mom was overjoyed. The house smelled of toasty sugar and syrup and melted butter, and the room was filled with a kind of bright warmth and homeyness that I hadn’t felt in a while.
