This Chattanooga-Based Baker Makes Meme-Worthy Creations
Sometimes funny, sometimes political, sometimes personal, always delicious
The most beautiful pies in Chattanooga, Tennessee, are made by Christine Nguyen, sole proprietor of a business called Mama Crunk’s, which derives from a nickname Nguyen received in college. The pies are similarly irreverent.
Nguyen does the standards, like peach and blueberry, but some of her best creations are for special orders or one-off events, where you’ll find them on Instagram: a rainbow-colored mac and cheese pie with an enormous cross on it for an “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”-themed Christmas party called The Gang Gets Crunk; a pie whose crust bears the all-caps declaration WHUTEVR FOREVR; another pie with a raised fist inside a Venus symbol, beneath the word RESIST; and yet another pie decorated like a vagina, whose, uh, aperture opens to reveal what looks like raspberry filling. (That one showed up on Nguyen’s Instagram story a while ago: “I feel like I can’t post this on the regular feed, but someone ordered a vagina pie and I’m kinda feelin it,” she wrote.)
