7 Ways to Add Zing to Plain Yogurt

Say goodbye to fruit-on-the-bottom containers and doctor it yourself

Take a pass on the grocery store strawberry-at-the-bottom plastic yogurt cup. Do it yourself, with a homemade or Greek plain yogurt as a base, with an infinite variety of mix-ins for endless adaptations. Here’s a handful of breakfast ideas to get your wheels turning:

Honey or maple syrup

Drizzle some over your yogurt, with a few pinches of sea salt if you’re feeling fancy.

Vanilla extract

A couple of drops go a long way on their own, but you can also add vanilla to a yogurt sweetened with honey, syrup, fruit, or preserves.

Chopped nuts

Go nuts (pun intended): walnuts, pecans, pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds, and cashews are all good options.

Preserves or jam

Whether you grab a nice jar from the fridge or DIY (it’s easier than you think), preserves and jam are a cheap alternative to fresh berries, especially at this time of year.
